I am currently undeclared under the College of Biological Sciences; I plan on majoring in biology.  I am still open to exploring other areas of study until I finally declare my major.  However, so far, nothing has interested me and challenged me as much as science. I am interested in working in the health care field, and thus exploring what career path to take. I plan on continuing my education after college and pursuing a Master’s in Public Health.

I am interested in continuing my involvement with the Chicano/ Latino community at UC Davis. Last year I had the opportunity to get involved in some events put on by the Chicano/ Latino community at UC Davis.  One of them was a movie screening to help raise awareness of the wages and working conditions of farm workers at a farm in Immokalee, Florida which is the main tomato provider for UC Davis student dining services. If all goes well and I do not have to work again this year, I plan on volunteering at a clinic in Sacramento called Clinica Tepati. This is a student- run clinic founded by Chicano/ Latino students that provides free primary health care services to the uninsured.

I am still very involved with my high school and the internship program I participated in during high school at the Children’s Hospital Oakland. I have participated in college student panels where students in Community Partnerships Academy at Berkeley High and students interning at Children’s Hospital get to ask me questions about college.  These students have also came to tour and visit UC Davis and my high school teachers have called me to come to talk to the students about my experience at Davis.  I am very interested in motivating more students with a similar background to mine to go to college.
