What scholarships and awards does BCF administer?

BCF gives out two different kinds of awards for eligible Berkeley High School seniors: High Hopes Scholarships and Achievement Awards,including the Berkeley High School Class of 1951 Award. BCF also administers the Adams Scholarships for Berkeley Community College Students transferring to four-year institutions.

How much money is given for a High Hopes Scholarship? For an Achievement Award?

The High Hopes Scholarships are $4,000 a year for four years of college – for a total of $16,000 per student. The Achievement Awards are one-time grants of between $500 and $2,000 for a student’s first year of college.

Can I apply for both?

Can I receive both?

No. You can receive a High Hopes Scholarship or an Achievement Award, not both.

What are the qualifications for each?

The qualifications are fully set forth on scholarship section of this website and are also available at the Berkeley High School College/Career Center. For both awards, you must demonstrate financial need and be planning to attend an accredited four-year college or university in the United States as a full-time student, beginning in the Fall of 2008.

Do I have to go a school in the Bay Area?

No. You can go to any accredited 4-year college or university in the United States.
